Emmy Award winning M*A*S*H star Harry Morgan 𝕕𝕚𝕖𝕤 aged 96

The popular character actor, who won an Emmy for playing Col Sherman Potter in the long-running TV series, 𝕕𝕚𝕖𝕕 at his Los Angeles home in Brentwood, California.

Making his way to Hollywood in 1942 ‘without any assurance I would find work’, Morgan appeared on the big screen opposite Henry Fonda , John Wayne, James Garner, Elvis Presley and Dan Aykroyd .

Morgan also starred as Officer Bill Gannon in TV crime serial Dragnet, as well as featuring in 50 films and a number of Broadway roles.

But it was his role in TV series MAS*H, adapted from a 1970 feature film, for which he was most well-known.

The show followed a team of doctors and support staff at the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Uijeongbu, South Korea, during the Korean War.

Many of its episodes were based on real life stories of MASH surgeons, divulged during interviews with the production team.

His acting career did not stop after the popular series left the air in 1983 after 11 years – one of television’s most successful prime-time runs.

Morgan went on to appear in several made-for-TV movies and other television series, such as AfterMASH and Blacke’s Magic.

Morgan is survived by his second wife, Barbara, and his four sons.
