House of the Dragon Actor Teases the Game of Thrones Spinoff’s Massive Scale

House of the Dragon star Ryan Corr recalls being "amazed" by the scope of the fully operational sets of the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff.

Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon will be every bit as epic as its predecessor, according to actor Ryan Corr.

Corr described the incredible scale of the upcoming HBO fantasy series in an interview with If.com.au. “The sheer size of it was something I was amazed by,” he explained. “When you are walking into operational sets with actual jousting tournaments and full-level scale castles with fire cauldrons hanging on the roof, it’s a pretty incredible place to be. It’s like walking into a live Shakespeare play.”

Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It charts the beginning of the end for Westeros’ ruling House Targaryen, culminating in the so-called “Dance of the Dragons” — the civil war between rival Targaryen factions.

Corr plays Ser Harwin Strong, a knight who is believed to be the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms. Also known as “Breakbones,” Ser Harwin is the eldest son to Master of Laws Lyonel Strong and will one day inherit Harrenhal castle.

Martin recently confirmed House of the Dragon Season 1 has completed filming. “Yes, all ten episodes [are finished],” he wrote. “I have seen rough cuts of a few of them, and I’m loving them. Of course, a lot more work needs to be done. Special effects, color timing, score, all the post production work. But the writing, the directing, the acting all look terrific. I hope you will like them as much as I do. My hat is off to [showrunners] Ryan [Condol] and Miguel [Sapochnik] and their team, and to our amazing cast.”

Despite this, House of the Dragon does not yet have an official release date. HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys recently chalked this up to uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and assured fans that a premiere date will be announced soon. “Now that we are out of production, I think that we will talk to their guys and figure out what we want to do in terms of announcing a date,” he explained. “But I was just trying to make sure that we didn’t come out with a date that we couldn’t meet for something that was out of our control.”

The first 10-episode season of House of the Dragon is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in 2022.
