The Nanny is a show that has captured the hearts of viewers all over the world — even though it originally aired on television more than two decades ago. Over time, Fran becomes very close with the family, in particular, to the family patriarch, the widowed Mr. Maxwell Sheffield.
The show was created by Drescher herself, who based many of the characters on people from her own life. Drescher became a star after the series debuted, and in short order, people all over the world knew the name Fran Fine. The Nanny won a lot of awards and honors during the time that it was on television, including 12 Emmy Award nominations.

One of the long-running storylines in The Nanny was the flirtation and eventual romance between Fran and Mr. Sheffield. While the two could not be more different on the surface, it soon becomes obvious that Fran and Mr. Sheffield are totally smitten with each other — and eventually, they establish a legitimate relationship.
In the later seasons of The Nanny, Fran and Mr. Sheffield decide to tie the knot, with Fran becoming the stepmother to the three Sheffield children.
In the final episodes of The Nanny, Fran gives birth to the couple’s children, a pair of fraternal twins. For viewers, the story arc between Fran and Mr. Sheffield was proof positive that even though the show was a comedy, real human emotions provided the heart and soul of The Nanny.
Fran Fine’s wedding dress was a peak fashion moment in ‘The Nanny’
Fran was one of the most fashionable characters on television. She was often seen wearing tiny, tight miniskirts, turtleneck sweaters, and sky-high heels, which would draw unimpressed looks from her fellow staffers at the Sheffield residence. But viewers loved how stylish she was, and how sassy her outfits always were.
These days, Fran’s style still stands out as being fabulous and fresh, and fans and critics alike look to The Nanny as peak ’90s fashion.
Possibly Fran’s biggest style moment came when she finally married Mr. Sheffield, toward the end of the series run on television. According to Vogue, Fran’s best look on the series was her $12,000 wedding dress, which featured a four-foot-long train and a fifteen-foot-long veil.
Drescher herself later opened up about the dress, stating that shopping for the perfect wedding dress for Fran Fine was a big deal: “I swear it was like I was really coordinating my own wedding. We went to a very fancy Beverly Hills bridal shop. I had to go for fittings … It was absolutely gorgeous.”
