The Sopranos

James Gandolfini’s son Michael hits the red carpet with Julianna Margulies and other stars of The Sopranos as the HBO series celebrates its 25th anniversary

Television history was made 25 years ago on Wednesday, the day that HBO debuted The Sopranos, as a number of stars and friends of the show hit the red carpet.

Michael Gandolfini, son of the late great James Gandolfini, hit the red carpet at a 25th anniversary event in New York City on Wednesday.

He was joined by Julianna Margulies – who played Julianna Skiff, the mistress of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) in four episodes over the last two seasons.

Other stars of The Sopranos – which was named the seventh-most binge-worthy TV show of all time – also arrived such as Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Jennifer Melfi), Aida Turturro (Janice Soprano) Annabella Sciora (Gloria Trillo), Steven Van Zandt (Silvio Dante), Vincent Pastore (Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiere), Jason Cerbone (Jackie Aprile Jr.), Federico Castellucio (Furio Giunta), Steve Schirripa (Bobby Baccalieri), Matt Servitto (Special Agent Dwight Harris), Kathrine Narducci (Charmaine Bucco), Robert Funaro (Eugene Pontecorvo) and Will Janowitz (Finn Detrolio).

The Sopranos starred the late James Gandolfini – who passed away at 51 years of age in 2013 – as New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano, which is believed to usher in the new ‘Golden Age’ of television.

Gandolfini’s son Michael hit the red carpet with his girlfriend, Australian actress Mia Healey for the event.

He stepped out in an all-black look with a black dress shirt, pinstriped black suit coat, black pants and black shoes.

The 24-year-old was born exactly five months after The Sopranos debuted, and he also helped continue the show’s lasting legacy.

His breakthrough role came in 2021, playing a younger version of his father’s iconic character Tony Soprano in the film prequel The Many Saints of Newark.

Last year he starred in Cat Person, Landscape With Invisible Hand and Beau Is Afraid, with Bob Marley: One Love in post-production.

Also hitting the red carpet on Wednesday was Julianna Margulies, who had already won an Emmy for her work on ER before her guest-starring stint on The Sopranos.

She also stepped out in an all-black look with a black leather jacket, gold necklace, black top, black pants and black shoes.

Margulies played Julianna Skiff, one of Tony Soprano’s mistresses, over a four-episode arc in the last two seasons of the show in 2006 and 2007.
