“Little House on the Prairie” returns to TV screens after nearly 40 years since it last aired.
Return of ‘Little House on the Prairie’
Entertainment Weekly reports the Ingalls family will be returning to their little farm on the prairie for a one-hour program after its final season ended with a bang in 1982.
Paramount Network, the creator of the No. 1 television drama “Yellowstone,” seems to be striking gold again with the reboot of the historical Western-based TV program.
The show is based on the auto-biographic novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Ed Friendly is the buyer of all of Ingalls Wilder’s novels, TV, and movie rights.
Ed’s son, Trip Friendly, will be the executive producer as he teams up with Paramount.
“Fans are eager to see ‘Little House on the Prairie’ come back to the screen, and we agree the time is right,” Friendly told the outlet of efforts to revive the show. “We feel optimistic that this will happen.”
The Ingalls Family Returns Home
“Little House on the Prairie” followed the Ingalls family living on a farm near Walnut Grove, Minnesota, from the 1870s through the 1890s. The family consists of husband Charles Ingalls, his wife Caroline, and their three daughters, Mary, Laura, and Carrie.
The show aired on NBC and ran for an exceptionally long time, first airing in 1974 and ending nearly 10 years later.
Alison Arngrim, starring as the snobby Nellie Oleson for seven seasons, assures the magazine she would be more than happy to make a cameo. “I’m just the right age to play Mrs. Oleson,” she joked. “I’m totally there. I have no shame.”
The original cast, including the late Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert, can never be replaced. However, Paramount and Trip Friendly are sure to find the perfect actors for the beloved characters. No dates or cast members have been announced at this time.
